Becoming a Good Dancer

An Old Art Form

Dancing is one of the oldest art forms. Throughout history, people have danced as a way to express their ideas, emotions, and beliefs. Dancing is no different today. People still dance as a way to communicate. Dancing can be formal or casual. Either way, dancing is one of the most enjoyable ways to spend time. And anyone can learn!


Practice Makes Perfect

Once you’ve learned how to dance, you never forget. Dancing is like riding a bike or having a conversation with a friend. Analyzing what you’re doing gets in the way of feeling it naturally. To be a good dancer, you have to learn to move to the music without thinking. Instead of anticipating each step before you make it, teach your feet to respond to the music. How do you teach your feet to move without thinking? Practice!


How to Practice

Dancing is about the repetition of basic steps. Beginners must be willing to make mistakes. The best way to start is without music. Dance alone in your room. Go over the steps again and again until the repetition feels effortless. Once you can do the steps, practice them with very slow music. As you improve, you can practice to a faster song. Dance with a partner only after you are comfortable performing the steps alone and with music.

After you know the basics, one of the easiest ways to master additional dance steps is with good friends before a party. Get a group together, put on some favorite music, and dance. Watch your friends to see which moves they know, and ask them to teach you.


The Benefits of Dancing

There are countless benefits to dancing. Good dancers enjoy the happiness that only dancing can bring. Dancing is fun. Dancing together helps people get to know one another. It also helps us enjoy music in a new way. One of the greatest advantages to dancing is that it’s good exercise.


Different Types of Dancing

There are as many different types of dancing as there are different types of music. Each country in the world has its traditional dances. No dance is better than any other, but dances can mean different things. Remember, dancing is a form of self-expression. The style of dancing you enjoy says a lot about who you are.

 THIS WEEK I LEARNED SOMETHING IMPORTANT. I LEARNED THAT ONE INDIVIDUAL

IT HAD BEEN REAINING HARD ALL WEEK. THEN LAST NIGHT, IT BECAME A FLOOD, MR. 
RUIZ IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM RIGHT AWAY. THE FLOOD WALL IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD 
WAS ABOUT TO BURST!
EVEYONE STARTED TO FILL AND STACK SANDBAGS. BUT THE WATER WAS RISING FAST.
MORE VOLUNTEERS WERE NEEDED, SO I OFFERED TO HELP.

WE STACKED HUNDREDS OF SANDBAGS. BUT THE SITUATION DID NOT IMPROVE. THE 
WATER KEPT GOING HIGHER AND HIGHER. NOBODY GAVE UP, THOUGH. WE ALL DID OUR 
DUTY AND KEPT WORKING HARD.
FINALLY, THE RAIN STOPPED. WE ALL CHEERED. OUR NEGHBORHOOD WAS SAVED!
